Surface Preparation and Protective Coating

Esenkıyı Shipyard performs surface preparation and high-performance coating applications for hulls (underwater and topside), superstructures, deck equipment, cargo holds, tanks, and accommodation areas of marine and offshore platforms. All operations are executed in accordance with ISO 8501-1 and SSPC/NACE standards.
Surface preparation includes ultra-high pressure (UHP) water jet removal of existing coatings (500 to 2500 bar), followed by abrasive blasting up to SA 2.5 or SA 3 cleanliness standards. Surface roughness measurements are conducted per ISO 8503-1, and certified surface profile documentation is provided.
We apply various types of coatings including solvent-based and solvent-free epoxy systems, zinc-rich primers, anti-fouling paints, silicone-based foul-release systems, and solvent-free epoxy liners for cargo and ballast tanks. All applications are monitored using WFT/DFT gauges, environmental control tools (relative humidity, dew point differential, surface temperature), and strict adherence to recoating interval limits.
In tank coating operations, material selection is made based on the type of tank atmosphere (e.g., inert, nitrogen-supported) and VOC regulations. Work is conducted with the oversight of manufacturer-certified applicators and NACE-certified coating inspectors.
All painting operations are carried out in full compliance with occupational safety and environmental regulations, with daily inspection forms and application reports maintained for quality assurance.
